it’s summer. plan to dress accordingly
April 17, 2008

yesterday afternoon my friends and i convened at a yogurt shop tucked away in a little strip mall off highland blvd. it was brighty and sunny. we all felt optimistic. and there was some catching up to do. L got some good job leads, K is prepping for her upcoming performance, and as for me, the social security administration finally approved my surname change – i now officially bear my husband’s last name.
so the final overture of any gathering involving my lovely friends always involves a look-see at popkiller on sunset. never a boring visit. love their collection of vintage sunglasses and juwerry.
while i’m crazy about oversize sunglasses from the ’70s and crazy earrings, vintage clothing really isn’t my thing. but as i rifled through the racks packed with rayon and polyester wonders from days gone by, this white cotton eyelet mini-dress beckoned.
i tried it on. L and K ooh’d and aah’d. i fell in love. but wasn’t sure. i hesitated spending $. i came home miserable. the opposite of buyer’s remorse. wanteditdidnuthinaboutitdamnit. it’s like meeting someone you really liked but hesitated taking it to the next level. (hey, i was single once. i know how these things go down. duh. reality.)
so now i am going back and getting it. popkiller is holding it for me. i shall update this post with pictures of me frolicking in my new dress. glimpses of the ’60s.
oh, and i bought another dress from ebay last week. provenance: thailand. crossing my fingers it will pass customs and not get lost.
*UPDATE*
got the dress! ricky takizawa was there, friendly and gracious and stylish as always! no pictures of me frolicking in the dress yet but here’s a snapshot. it shall be worn with necklace i bought in milan, and a pair of cute jewelled flats.
